Our caregivers are the very heart of what we do - many have been with us for over a decade. They are experienced, reliable and deeply committed to providing care with warmth and respect.
It is important that your caregiver is someone you can easily relate to, feel safe with and enjoy having in your home. It is often difficult to imagine that such a person exists, but we have an excellent reputation for matching the very best caregiver to suit your needs.
We are one of the few home care providers in New Zealand that directly employs our caregivers, rather than contracting them. This allows us to support them properly as employees with fair conditions, ongoing training and all the benefits that independent contractors often miss out on. This gives our caregivers a strong sense of belonging, being part of a team and a feeling of worth.
Each caregiver is carefully selected not only for their skills and professionalism but their ability to build real and trusting relationships. You can feel confident in welcoming them into your home, knowing they are kind, responsible and genuinely caring.
Flexible, Client-Led Care
You are always in control. Whether you want to change the timing of visits, meet a new caregiver or pause your care for a while, we will work with you to make it happen. Our flexibility means you can shape your care around your life - not the other way around.
Caregiver screening
We are acutely aware of people's anxiety or reluctance to have someone in their home, which is why our recruitment process is strong, thorough and robust.
Each potential caregiver will need to answer extensive questions in regard to experience and training and be subject to a detailed online interview, which is followed by reference and police checks.
If we feel they are the right fit, only then are they brought into the office for a one-on-one interview with a local team member. A decision is then made as to whether the candidate may begin with Miranda Smith Homecare.
Care and training education
We are one of the few home care providers that directly employs our caregivers.
We are committed to helping our caregivers grow their skills and confidence through ongoing training and support.
Training opportunities include:
- Access to our company’s dedicated online training platform
- On-the-job clinical training tailored to individual client needs
- Specialist courses through community partners, organisations and local Hospices
